MPAGS History

1956 –  Founding of MPA

1957 – 1995 – Informal involvement of graduate students in MPA

1996 –  With the mentoring of Dr. Steve Sobelman, Dr. Jan Fiske, and Dr. Jeffrey Barnett the MPA Graduate Student Committee was created as an ad hoc committee

2002 –  MPA Board of Directors unanimously approved the creation of MPAGS and MPAGS elected its first set of officers.

2003 –  1st MPAGS Chair assumed position as a full voting member of MPA’s Board of Directors

2003 –  1st MPAGS Convention

2006 –  MPAGS Undergraduate Mentoring Program begins

2007 –  MPAGS is nominated by Dr. Barnett for the APAGS Award for Outstanding State, Provincial, or Territorial Psychological Association of the Year

2009 –  MPAGS lobbies with MPA and other psychologists to successfully change Maryland law to allow psychologists to sit for licensure at the receipt of the doctorate.

2010 –  MPA was the recipient of the 2010 APAGS award for an Outstanding State, Provincial and Territorial Association of the year
