This workshop will provide an introduction of psilocybin-assisted therapy including the standard treatment model. Psilocybin is an active ingredient in some species of mushrooms, often referred to as ‘magic mushrooms'.  A review will be done on the current level of evidence and safety. Then will discuss the future directions that psilocybin-assisted therapy is headed towards.  

 After attending this workshop, attendees will be able to 

  • Describe the standard model of treatment used in psilocybin-assisted therapy and the basic mechanisms
  • Assess the current evidence for efficacy and safety of psilocybin-assisted therapy

Natalie Gukasyan, M.D. is a psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University. After receiving her M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine Dr. Gukasyan completed her internship and residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. Her current research focuses on the feasibility and efficacy of novel treatment strategies including psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for mood, addictive, and eating disorders. Dr. Gukasyan is also a clinician at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Community Psychiatry Program serving patients with co-occurring mental illness and addictive disorders
